Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes was the brilliant creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Famous for his acute observations and ingenious deductions, Holmes attempts to solve difficult cases and pit his wits against the fiendish Moriarty.

The Bust
There are many interpretations of how Conan Doyle's classic creation would have looked. This is an original interpretation sculpted at our workshop in Bath. 

The Base
Around the top of the base we have included 221B Baker Street, a hackney cab, violin, magnifying glass, microscope, pipe, police helmet and books.

The etch around the base reads:

"THE GAME IS AFOOT!"

Originally from Shakespeare's King Henry IV, part I, Conan Doyle first used this phrase in "The Adventures of the Abbey Grange".

Oscar Wilde
16.10.1854 - 30.11.1900

Handmade bust of Oscar Wilde. Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde was an Irish playwright, novelist, essayist, and poet.

He is best known for his works including 'The Importance of Being Earnest', 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'. He was one of London's most popular playwrights in the early 1890's.

Wilde attended university at both Trinity College, Dublin and then Magdelen College, Oxford where is read the 'Greats' - Literae Humaniores.

After university, Wilde moved to London into fashionable cultural and social circles where he became known for his wit, flamboyant dress and charming conversation, Wilde became one of the best-known personalities of his day.

The Base
The frame from Dorian Gray, a prison cell door from Pentonville Prison, lilies, roses and a sunflower, books and quill pen and the iconic handbag as featured in 'The Importance of Being Ernest'.

The etch around the base reads:

"I CAN RESIST ANYTHING EXCEPT TEMPTATION".

Charles Dickens

Charles John Huffam Dickens was an English writer and social critic.

He created some of the world's best-known fictional characters and is regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era. 

His works enjoyed unprecedented popularity during his lifetime, and by the twentieth century critics and scholars had recognised him as a literary genius. His novels and short stories enjoy lasting popularity.

The Bust
Based on the many illustrations of the time, this bust was sculpted at our workshop in Bath and makes a classic addition to the fireplace, bookshelves or occasional table for any lover of Dickens.

The Base
The top of the base includes models of scenes from the tales of Dickens and Victorian England.

The etch around the base reads:

Jane Austen
16.12.1775 - 18.07.1817

One of Britain's favourite authors, Jane paid two long visits to Bath towards the end of the eighteenth century, and from 1801 to 1806 Bath was her home.

It also provides the backdrop to two of her novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, and features in her other novels and in the collection of letters to her sister, Cassandra.

The Bust
Based on portraits and descriptions of the time, this bust was sculpted at our workshop in Bath and makes a wonderful addition to the fireplace, bookshelves or occasional table of any Jane Austenite.

The Base
There are a series of objects around the base illustrating articles associated with Jane Austen. For this Jane Austen bust we have included Pemberley House, envelopes & letters, evening dance, Jane Austen house, town house and a courting couple.

Robert Burns

Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796), also known as Robbie Burns, the Bard of Ayrshire and various other names, was a Scottish poet and lyricist.

He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide. Robert Burns was a pioneer of the Romantic movement. His poem 'Auld Land Syne' is often sung at Hogmanay.

The Bust
Based on modern statues and portraits of the time, this bust was sculpted at our workshop in Bath and makes a regal addition to the fireplace, bookshelves or occasional table of any Burns follower.

The Base
There are a series of models around the base associated with Burns and his works and Scotland.  For this bust we have included Bagpipes, Plough, Ink well and quill, Book, Whiskey bottle, Candle holder, timorous beastie and Burn's Cottage.

The etch around the base reads:

"SHOULD AULD ACQUAINTANCES BE FORGOT AND NEVER BROUGHT TO MIND"

Born during the reign of Elizabeth I, William Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright. He is often called England's national poet, and the "Bard of Avon".

The Bust
Based on the many illustrations of the time, this bust was sculpted at our workshop in Bath. The perfect gift for any Shakespeare aficionado.

The Base
There are a series of details around the base associated with Shakespeare and his works. For this bust we have included quill and ink, scrolls and books, the Greek masks of comedy and tragedy, a crown, the famous Hamlet skull, the Capulet Rose and Montague Swords from Romeo and Juliet.

The etch around the base reads:

"TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE"

Quote from Act 1, scene 3 of Hamlet when Polonius's gives his final piece of advice to his son Laertes, who is in a hurry to get on the next boat to Paris.

Christopher Marlowe

Christopher Marlowe, also known as Kit Marlowe was an English plawright and poet and translator of the Elizabethan era.
More Info
Modern scholars count Marlowe among the most famous of the Elizabethan playwrights and based upon the "many imitations" of his play Tamburlaine they consider him to have been the foremost dramatist in London in the years just before his mysterious early death.

Some scholars also believe that he greatly influenced William Shakespeare, who was baptised in the same year as Marlowe and later became the pre-eminent Elizabethan playwright.

"Come live with me and be my Love"
